Neuroprotection impact, applied during the acute period of the ischemic stroke, on the life quality of patients with 3 months following the stroke

Objective – to evaluate the impact of complex therapy with Ceraxon given during the acute period of
ischemic stroke on quality of life of patient in 3 months after stroke.
Methods and subjects. Complex clinical, neurological and laboratory study of 72 patients with ischemic stroke
(36 male and 36 female) aged 46 to 81 (mean age 67.9 ± 9.9) was performed. The diagnosis and localization of stroke were verified with brain MRI and/or CT in acute period of the disease. We also used the NIHSS scale, Bartel's index and MMSE scale. Ceraxon 1000 mg/day with Аctovegin 10 ml/day together with traditional therapy was given to 38 patients. Thirty four patients received traditional therapy only. Quality of life in 3 months was assessed with the SF-36 scale.
Results. Quality of life (physical and psychological components of health) was significantly higher (p < 0.01) in
patients of Ceraxon group with mild or medium severity in comparison with the traditional therapy only group. In patients of both clinical groups with severe stroke, no significant differences were revealed.
Conclusions. Complex Ceraxon and Аctovegin application in patients with mild-to-medium ischemic stroke in
acute period improves quality of life (physical and psychological components of health) in 3 months after stoke.
